Just Shut Up and Drive, is here for a bit of a chat. We've very excited to have Wil here. He has quite a story to tell and his grandfather's wicked sense of humour.
We're going to try to get a bit of background from this amazing young man, but don't you worry. There will be hints but no spoilers in this interview because we both want readers to enjoy his story from beginning to end without knowing ahead of time what'll be coming.
So, pull up a seat, grab your favorite bevvie and enjoy our chat with Wil.
CHYNNA: Wil! It is so wonderful to have you join us here today. I'm glad you were able to squeeze us in with all you have going on.
WIL: Ah, it's all good. I'm not going leaving for school for a couple of more days. Still packing, getting in visit time in with friends...you know. All that funness.
CHYNNA: Yeah, right. HA! Okay, well let's jump right into it. You wanna give our readers a bit of your background?
WIL: Not much to tell, really. It's not like I'm a celebrity or something. HAHA!! I'm just you're regular guy. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I work...well, worked...at Bassey's Pharmacy a couple of blocks from my grandparents' house. I obviously had to quit since it's a bit of a car ride from Ontario to Winnipeg each day, and I doubt old Mr. Bassey would pay my mileage. And, quite frankly, I have no intention of going on any more long car rides for quite some time, thanks.
CHYNNA: HAHA! I'll bet. Alright, before I ask you about car rides and stuff, let's talk a little bit about the special person you travelled with.
WIL: Ah, yes. Gramps. Well, what can I say? The man should really be here speaking for himself because, as you know, I say anything that isn't exactly the way 'it is', he'll verbally kick my butt. Physically if I'm WAY off.
CHYNNA: ::laughing:: I understand your fear. Don't worry. We'll keep it all among us. ::wink::
WIL: Gramps is this wonderful, hilarious, grumpy old goat. He comes across like he'd rip your head clean off, but honestly, he only goes there if you deserve it. My parents died in this car crash when I was about five and he raised me all on his own. Between you and me, it wasn't always a bowl of cherries. Heck! Alot of the time it was like swimming with piranhas, you know what I mean? Only they are alot friendlier! But seriously, though. He did an amazing thing for me...taking me in. And I'll always be grateful to him for that. Oh man would he slap me upside the head for that sentiment.
CHYNNA: Aw, Wil. That's too funny. Tell us about this road trip. Why did it come about, where did you guys go, and what did you learn?
WIL: Okay, I know what you're trying to do, Chynna. You're pumping me for info and I ain't giving up more than I can. All I can tell you is that it came about because Gramps said it was going to, and I wasn't in a position to say no. I never am. We drove from Winnipeg to Regina, stopping in all these places he really wanted me to see. What did I learn? Ah! More than I thought I would. About me, about my life and, most importantly, about that old fart I thought I knew so well. He's one amazing dude, I tell ya. Just don't tell him I said that or I'll firmly deny it. Don't need his head getting any bigger than it is already.
CHYNNA: Okay, okay. ::laughing:: I promise. What do you want people to be left with reading about your journey with Gramps?
WIL: That's an awesome question. Actually, I never really thought about it. I guess I'd just really like people to be left with the sense that we're all here to learn from each other. You know, don't be afraid to go on that journey you need to, no matter how far or who it's with, to figure out where you need to go next. It can be scary but sometimes ya just gotta. That's life right?
CHYNNA: Absolutely. Okay, we won't keep you any longer. One question we really like to ask in our interviews is what your pearls of wisdom are. You know, a philosophy, a quote...
WIL: Never, ever travel with kids, animals or old people. No, no. I'm kidding...kinda. No. Um. I guess a good pearl a wise person taught me recently is that you should never be afraid to learn or face the truth. And it's often the one person you'd never think would know jack, it the only person whose smart enough to teach ya.
CHYNNA: Aw. Well, I'm sure once people know your story, they'll 'get' what you're saying there. Thank you so much for dropping by. Feel free to come back again.
WIL: Yeah! Sure! Thanks for having me. And thanks for letting us tell our story.
CHYNNA: What a great kid. Alrighty, as you all know we have a contest to win one of two copies of Just Shut Up and Drive through Goodreads. You can enter HERE. The contest goes until midnight on Friday (March 28th). And you can read all about it in THIS blog post. Good luck, have fun and feel free to comment. ;)
